On Saturday, April 11th. S.O.L...(well two members and associate; Julian "King Biggs" Morrison, Yannick "The Therapist" Reid and Karl Wilson respectively) went to the Equiknoxx studio.
Reaching at approximately 10:14 am to the residence and studio in Red Hills we met up with Gavin Blair...head and main producer of Equiknoxx Music. King Biggs was recording a new single for himself but I won't spoil too many of the details for you...
Upon entering the studio we heard Equiknoxx artiste Lil Joe doing some dubs for local radio stations and DJs. It only took a short wait until he was finished.
There were brief introductions, as it was my first time at the studio but Karl and Julian were already familiar. I got a run through of the song recorded so far, which sounded great listening through huge speakers and a high end sub woofer. To my amazement, I watched as Lil Joe sang along with the lyrics, probably familiar from the previous session.
After the listen, Lil Joe left to attend to other Saturday Morning duties and Julian made no hesistation to run into the booth and get started. It went smoothly with a few tricky lyrical spots getting etched out with a few runs. Equiknoxx being a jovial fellow made a few wise cracks and the atmosphere of the studio was enjoyable and comfortable.
We also took a look at the three doors within the booth, all three etched with the signatures
and "blessings" from various artistes amongst which we saw; Aidonia, Mr. Peppa...a good amount from Tifa (lol hmm?)...Spice and many more.
Also some quotes that were just...:
"My Yellow Jacket turned out to be Blue."
"Why can't my Purple dog do the same things as my Orange cat?"
Looked to be written by Gavin himself...
Nearing about 1:30, the recording of the song was finished and Julian left the booth with a huge sigh of relief.
While listening to it again, we were joined at the studio by a woman in bright patriotic colours, her head wrapped and with what looked like short locks beneath... the singer known as Italee.
She listened to Julian's song and laughed heartily and enjoyed it, also leaving us with some tips and words of wisdom.
With a little time to spare Gavin ran through some new unreleased riddims planning to release later, also giving us a listen to a Mix CD of Cobba Cobba, Swagga Dagga and other various Equiknoxx riddims mixed together.... even to the point of hearing Hundred Stab over the Cobba Cobba riddim brought out some crazy vibes and Gavin gave us each a copy free of cost...hey I'm listening to it now.
At around 2:24pm we left Equiknoxx for the road but the point is it was a great experience with great results.
Keep Posted to the Blog for More Updates.
Yannick "The Therapist" Reid,
President..
